Electrofusion Fittings

Electrofusion fittings are made up of PE polymer, to ensure that the internal layer of the fitting and the external layer of the pipe are fused together. Metal electric resistant coils are implanted into the fittings. As electric current runs through the coils, heat is generated and melt adjacent part of the pipes and fittings, joining them together upon solidification.

Advantages:

• Eliminates human error in the jointing of Pipe and fittings (prevalent in Butt-fusion jointing).
• No need for a skilled hand for jointing.
• Faster installation

Disadvantages:

• Compatibility: The PE Raw Material of Pipe and Fittings must be compatible for proper jointing. Dissimilar properties like Melting points will result in poor jointing.
• Cost: Butt-fusion joints avoid the use of additional couplers, hence economical compared to EF jointing. Electro-fusion fittings of Higher diameters are not available indigenously and are generally expensive.
